MARKETS
Markets or even individual small stalls can be found everywhere in the small towns and cities. Italians prefer to shop right on their doorstep. It is often a local farmer who sells his freshly picked produce directly from the back of his APE. The range is then rather limited. The weekly markets, on the other hand, are busier. Vegetables, cheese, ham and all kinds of household goods can be picked up on a leisurely stroll.
However, the monthly flea markets are even more exciting. In Lecce, for example, this always takes place on the last Sunday of the month. There is plenty to choose from here, from basement finds to well-preserved antiques.
